Frequently Asked Questions about Quadrant Eye

For whom is this service intended?

Our goal is bring critical eye health exams directly to you, whether it be at your place of work or in your home. We can also provide eye exams to older adults 65+, especially those with mobility or other issues that make it difficult for them to travel to a doctor’s office.

Who will be performing the eye exam?

All of our on-site exams will be performed by one of our licensed and vaccinated ophthalmic specialists. You can expect a visit with our technicians to take between 15 and 20 minutes to complete.

What does an at-home eye exam cost?

When you register for an on-site eye exam at Quadrant Eye you will share your insurance information with us. After we complete your exam, we will submit our bill to your insurance company directly for reimbursement. That means less hassle and cost to you!

Please note: If you've had an eye exam within the year, your insurance may not cover the cost of an additional screening. Please check with your insurance company prior to scheduling your at-home eye exam.

What can I expect during an at-home eye exam?

Our exam starts with a quick questionnaire about your eye history. Then there is the vision check: This will require you to wear your current contacts or glasses so that we can get the most accurate assessment of your current level of vision. The last steps are to complete some eye health checks to screen to see if you are at risk for cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and optic nerve disease.

Can I use this service if I've never been to an optometrist or ophthalmologist?

Yes. One of our licensed ophthalmic professionals will come to your residence to perform a vision test and collect vital eye health metrics with our portable devices. Following your exam, our staff ophthalmologists will look over your results to check for early signs of disease. We’ll be reviewing your eye vitals, which include: visual acuity (VA,) pupillary response, and intraocular pressure (IOP). If we have any concerns about your eye health, we'll help connect you with a specialist in your area for follow-up care.

What are the most common eye diseases?

According to the CDC more than 4.2 million Americans aged 40 years and older are either legally blind or are with low vision. The leading causes of blindness and low vision? Age-related eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma.

Where is this service available?

We are currently piloting our on-site eye exam service in the San Francisco Bay area. If you are outside of this area but would like to try the Quadrant Eye at-home eye screening service, please let us know!
